The Ten Things You Need To Do To Write Compelling Web Site Content

February 25, 2009 by D. A. Shaver

  1. Choose a topic your readers will want to know about
  2. Choose a title that describes your topic and what you want to say about it
  3. Write a first sentence that summarizes your main points and what you hope to accomplish with your article
  4. Stay on topic
  5. Break your topic in relevant components
  6. Divide the separate parts with bulleted points or small paragraphs with bold sub headings. On-line articles should not contain long passages of unbroken text
  7. Explain each part of your overall topic
  8. Reread and correct individual ideas with a goal of keeping them relevant to the overall and change as necessary
  9. Read and remove all clichés, phrases or jargon, which relate only to your industry or anything else, which is not related or self-explanatory. Words like however can nearly always be removed. Phrases like “lets get started” should also be removed. Remove everything that does not support your topic or title.
  10. Read and correct all spelling errors

You have to love what you are doing. I work on web sites and study all the time, as much as 18 hours a day, except when I have family things I need to do. The difference between self-employed and employed people is that employed people get time off. My first paying customer was in the year 2000 and I still have the check.
